About

Welcome to Order of Merlin: Muggle Class! My name is Spencer Patel and I am a huge Potter-head! I have been a part of this wonderfully magical fandom since 2005 and cannot get enough content! I’ve listened to countless podcasts, watched a plethora of theory videos, and have even delved into some fan-fiction.  This is a Harry Potter blog that focuses on all aspects of the Wizarding World! Follow along for chapter by chapter re-read summary and analysis, theory studies, and over all Wizarding World trivia!

I want to share a little about me and help you put a face to the text! I grew up in a little town called Rockwall, TX, which is just NE of Dallas. I graduated from Rockwall High School in 2013, went to Texas Tech University and graduated with a Degree in Spanish in 2018, and now living in Dallas working in the Real Estate industry! I am engaged to the love of my life and my high school sweetheart, Sarah Berger, and I am looking to do something that is a bit out of my comfort zone; start a blog!

Spencer and Sarah

I’m going a little out of order here, but before I get into my Potter story, I want to share my Wizarding World Passport specs. I took the Pottermore test several times and have been sorted into Ravenclaw each time! When I looked at my percentages on which house I should be in, there was 2% difference with Hufflepuff, which fits my personality better, but I’ll take the sorting hat’s decision! My wand is made of Hornbeam wood and unicorn hair, 10 and 3/4 inches with pliant flexibility. My Ilvermorny house is Puckwudgie, which makes sense if my second Hogwarts house is Hufflepuff. My favorite quiz by far is the Patronus quiz, and I LOVE my Patronus! It is a Leopard! I couldn’t bare to see it change when I recreated my account in the Wizarding World site, so I went ahead and transferred that over! But now lets see how I got into Potter!

My Forever Halloween Costume

My Potter story isn’t like most peoples, although I dare say it’s not the strangest I’ve heard.

Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to read/watch the Harry Potter series, but, in 2005, I had watched the end of a curiously magical film at friend’s house. For the first time, I watched Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. At that point, I had to know what happened at the beginning/what happened next and, after realizing that there were 3 movies and 5 books out and ready, with a 4th movie on the way and a 6th book in the works, I proceeded to start from the beginning. I began to read the books in order and, at the close of each book, I watched the corresponding movie.

It was excruciating to wait for the rest of the movies and books to come out! Book releases came and I waited for crowds to slow before I picked up my copies of Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, but I made sure that I went to the midnight release for every film after Order of the Phoenix!

Alas, the series came to an end and I was beside myself. People think its silly to get attached to fictional characters in books and TV shows, but when you have “spent so much time” with a story, its difficult not to be sad when it ends. So, I naturally did what many of you probably did; I re-read them. In total I’ve probably re-read the books at least 8 times (and once all the way through in Spanish) and have listened to the audiobooks 4-6 times by this point. For a long time I was obsessed with the movies and I re-watched them constantly in the background when I worked on school work and what not. As I mentioned before, I listen to multiple podcasts including, but not limited to Swish and Flick, Potterless, and, while it was still being produced, Dear Mr. Potter.

It was from these podcasts that I was inspired to blog about the Wizarding world. I have so much knowledge about the story, and really no way to use it! So I hope you enjoy this blog and that it is fun and exciting for you to get back into the Wizarding World!
